Collections

Plates are printed in the order they were made, not by marque. Nothing is retouched beyond a warm grade and a modest contrast lift, which is how they looked coming off the card.
Landscape
Wide country, coastline and the long empty roads between them. Shot on the same trips as the cars, but kept apart here — they ask for a slower pass and a longer look.
Portrait
People, standing more or less where they were found. Available light throughout, and no direction beyond asking someone to stay put for a moment longer than is comfortable.
About thephotographer
Sam Ruhe photographs cars — parked, mostly, and usually at whatever hour the light stops being ordinary. The work started as an excuse to walk around a city with a camera and has stayed roughly that ever since.
The three collections are kept separate because they are made differently. Cars are planned; landscapes happen on the way; portraits only happen when someone agrees. New plates are added to whichever collection they belong to, and each keeps its own numbering.
Prints, licensing and commissions are all handled by email. There is no form; a sentence about what you have in mind is plenty.
